same things all over again

I love how laboratories are the “hands-on” supplement for lectures. You can learn so much more experimentally, but sometimes you learn even more than the scope of your objective. For example, I answered the question:
“At what height does it take to break a watch glass?”
Answer: 10 centimeters.
In case you’re wondering, a watch glass is pretty much like a big glass contact lens, which serves the role of a glorified, fancy, glass dish. COUNTLESS days have I spent in the gen chem lab where you may break almost anything free of charge, and there I didn’t break a thing. Luckily watch glasses seem to only be about a buck a pop, so they may just let it slide. I guess to be fair I did break a small stirring rod before, but that doesn’t count. Who hasn’t broken one of those? I suppose I’ll just be glad I didn’t break any of my condensers, because apparently those can go up to $120 or so.
I’m also taking a Linguistic analysis class for fun and elective purposes. Whoever knew it would get so overwhelming? They combined the session with a graduate class, and there seems to be no difference in their assignments and ours. In addition to that, everything we’re learning seems to be old news to them, so the class is going along at fios speeds and I’m feeling a little like dial-up.
Gosh it sucks to be dial-up.
Aside from that, school is just peachy. My new roommates are working out just fine. We don’t need to ask them to do anything. They wash dishes, they take out the trash, they’re considerate and friendly, they’re reasonably clean and quiet, they cook good food for everyone occasionally–in short, they’re great roommates. And few things make life more pleasant than good living companions. For them I am truly thankful.
Although speaking of new roomies makes me miss my old roomie. Somehow I doubt my current roommates will ever spontaneously show up in my room with a blanket and declare they are spending the night. Or be able to work miracles with my hair at any time of the day. Or draw cute caricatures of all my professors that makes them three times more bearable. For things like that, I leave to Kim.
Kim-chan ni kampai!
